SALES MANAGER, ENGINEERING SERVICES
Position Summary
Pursues profitable new business development activities by matching company capabilities and products to customer requirements. Takes the actions required to prepare technical proposals and contract orders for company products and services.
Reporting directly to the Director of Sales - Engineering Services, this position will take a lead role in the turbomachinery engineering sales area.
The individual will need to match the company's capabilities and resources in turbomachinery engineering to the needs of the customer. Acting as a principal customer interface, the Sales Manager requires a thorough technical knowledge of turbomachinery engineering, including the application, design, and operation of combustion and steam turbines, compressors, pumps, fans/blowers, and turbochargers. The individual will work with other departments, in particular the Engineering Group, to develop
proposals that meet the client's needs. An ability to work independently
and as part of a team, with excellent communication skills, is essential.
Responsibilities include developing plans for future growth, working with CRM tools for tracking business activity and market trends, developing forecasts for resource planning, preparing technical proposals and cost estimates, following-up on open proposals and taking necessary action to close sales, and making effective presentations to customers. A minimum of a Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent, is expected with five or more years of work related experience and the ability to translate customer requests into individual technical proposals. The desired candidate must have excellent technical sales skills, including proposal writing and presentations. A strong base of experience in pumps, compressors, turbines or engines and related systems is required. Some travel will be required. Knowledge of computer software (Office, Excel,
CRM) is expected.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare technical proposals that meet customer requirements.
- Follow-up on open proposals and take the actions necessary to close
sales.
- Ensure customer requirements are properly communicated to others
during the contracting process, including the contract manager and accounting office.
- Assist with sales and marketing forecasting.
- Maintain liaison with customers, report market trends, and assist
with planning.
- Prepare cost estimates, proposals and contracts, and manage programs
as needed.
- Make effective presentations to others, including customers and
staff.
- Solid leadership skills for managing or mentoring other sales and
technical staff members.
Education and Experience
Significant technical and sales experience combined with progressive growth in an organization including supervision. Ideal background includes past technical or sales employment with a company that manufacturers, uses or sells turbomachinery equipment, pumps, fans, etc. Good background in cross-departmental interfaces and team building is desired.
Education: Minimum B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
Experience: Five years of technical experience and five to 10 years of sales experience.
Other special job requirements: Willingness to travel to meet with customers and attend industrial trade shows. Ability to demonstrate technical concepts at all levels within customer's organization. Good computer skills, including Microsoft Office products and some familiarity with CRM systems. Good communication and teamwork skills, a broad-based technical knowledge, and business fundamentals.
